Into the Green

While making a trip over Afton Mountain for a doctor appointment, I was fascinated by the beautiful green. The way the sun was shining on the trees looked rather like an enchanted forest to me.

“Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the singing bird will come.” – Lois Lowry

“For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green.”

– J. R. R. Tolkien

Our Lawn

I always look forward to the Dandelions. They look like spots of sunshine in the yard after a dreary winter. We have quite a lot.

I found these with bees on them.

But what's this?

See this tiny blue flower? Here it is in comparison to my shoe.

It is called Speedwell. It has about 500 different species! And is so cute, and are all over our yard.

A Whole New World

Our granddaughter Dara was in the play "Alladin Jr." this week. She played the head of the guards. So come along with me for a visit to the Ottoman empire!

The outfits of the princess & her ladies were really pretty and bejeweled.

Here is Dara "arresting" them.

She was trying to be serious and not laugh.

Success!

Alladin & the princess singing "A Whole New World". They had beautiful voices.

Time for their final bows. They were all given a standing ovation. So much talent for middle-schoolers!

The Rooster

Living pretty much in the country, we have quite a few chickens around here. Every time we come in or go out, a nearby rooster crows. Yet we cannot find him! We have been all over the nearby neighborhood with no luck. Maybe he lives in a yard with a high fence. Yet how can he see us and we can't see him?

We came across this rooster quite awhile ago. He came up and posed for us.

Then in a split second, he took off at a high rate of speed.

He looked like these guys.

This rooster came running up to us and wildly attacked our tires! Trying to pick a fight with them.

Fun Chicken Facts

1) There are more chickens in the world than people. Globally, chickens outnumber people 3 to 1.

2) The longest recorded flight of a chicken is 13 seconds.

3) An egg shell has as many as 17,000 pores over its surface.

4) Alektorophobia is the fear of chickens.

5) The U.S. produces about 75 billion eggs a year. That is about 10% of the world supply.

6) Roosters can't crow if they can't fully extend their neck.

Virginia Bluebells

The Virginia Bluebells are blooming now. They are so pretty and delicate. Here are some a few blocks away.

Here are some Bluebell tattoos I found online. Would you get any of them?

How Fairies Use Bluebells
Bluebells are sometimes referred to as “fairy thimbles.” For example, to call fairies to a convention, a bluebell is be rung. In traditional lore, fairies cast spells on those who dared to pick or damage the beautiful, delicate flowers.

A Good Neighbor

Our next-door neighbor's house is very close to ours. Our house is on the left and theirs is on the right. Our back doors face each other.

I think her front door and chair cushion are pretty.

Anyway, these shots are from their small flower garden in the middle of their yard.
